How to Make Different Style Bookmarks

Basic supplies for a simple bookmark.

If you’ve been following our series this month, you’ll have noticed that we’re sharing some fun, easy DIY projects to do this summer. Well, I don’t have something unique to offer, so I’ll also be doing an update of the business alongside some inspirational ideas…hopefully.

Let’s Start with Some Inspiration

My part in the business is quite extensive. I try to keep us on track and manage our online presence. As you may know, I love design and typography. So, with that in mind, I’ll show you some ways I like to use those skills to make very simple bookmarks. All you’ll need is some good paper and your favorite art supplies.

Using Crayola SuperTips Markers

Before I make my designs permanent, I tend to sketch them out using a pencil. That way, if I don’t like the way something turned out, I can erase it and fix it.

Using Pens

Here I used Crayola SuperTips Markers to add a touch of color to a black traced design.

In this design, I used Chameleon Markers. They’re an alcoholic based marker that allows beautiful blending techniques. Once again, I first sketched out my design, traced it with a black pen, and then colored it in.

Using a Pyrography Tool

Another way I like to make bookmarks is using my pyrography set on wood. I sketch with my pencil, then trace over it with my pyrography tool.

My last technique is using watercolors. This is a new area I’m developing and very much enjoying. In this particular bookmark, I used a cotton paper where I ripped the edges to give it a unique look.

I hope that I’ve been able to motivate and inspire you to have some fun with simple supplies you may have laying around your house. I know it wasn’t much of a step-by-step instructional, but that’s the beauty of being an artisan…you have the freedom to have fun in the things you make.

Show Us What You Made

We would love to see how you use your favorite art supply to make a bookmark. Send us a picture, and we will select three of our favorites and feature them on our Instagram page. Be sure to follow us (@FGGDesigns) so you can see if you’ve been selected!

Now Onto Business

A New Adventure

The last few months have been busy, yet quiet. The Lord has blessed us with a smooth process so far regarding our visa to move to the US. If He allows and all continues to go smoothly, we’ll be starting this next adventure at the end of July! Do continue to pray with us as we pursue the move and all that it entails.

Up Next

We have been in business for a bit over a year, so we thought we would answer some questions we’ve received over time in our next blog series. Thank you to all who have sent in their questions! If you still have some lingering in the back of your mind, send them over this week as we prepare to answer them next week (and the four weeks to follow).

Coming Soon

We have been busy working on something new and exciting that we will be launching Winter 2017/2018! There’s a lot of thought and planning going into this, and we’re eager to share this with you…but you’ll have to wait just a little longer.

Thank You!

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us this far. We’re very grateful how the Lord has used you in the growing of our business.

SALE

As we prepare for our move to the US of A, we are hosting a special stock clearance sale on all wooden kitchen utensils! Contact us if you’re interested. Remember, each of these items is unique…so once they’re gone, they’re gone.
