What is love?
The dictionary puts it as, “an intense feeling of deep affection.” Affection means, “a gentle feeling of fondness or liking”.
As we look at how love is now shown throughout the world. Is that really love? Is love… husbands abusing their wives and children or all butterflies and wonderful feelings? Let’s look at real love! The Love of Jesus Christ, shown in the Bible.
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Think about it. Read it again. Do you fulfill all these? I know I don’t. Does it say that love is rude? Or hateful? No, it doesn’t. Does it say that love gives you butterflies and wonderful feelings? No, it doesn’t.
“And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.” – Matthew 22:37-38
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” – John 15:12
How has Christ loved us?
Jesus says to love one another as He loves us. Do you know how He loves us? If not, how do you expect yourself to be able to love like He does. Christ has died on the cross for our sins to forgive us from ALL our unrighteousness. That is the ultimate sacrifice that He did for us! Do we deserve it? No matter what you might think, no, none of us deserves that!
So one last question: how do you love like Christ loves us? There is only one way! The only way we can love is through Christ. Meaning you need a close relationship with Him to be able to have that unconditional love. A close relationship with Him means spending time in the word daily and praying daily. Being in constant communication with Him. The only way to do that, is to accept Him to be your Lord and Savior. He needs to be the center of your life!
