A Beginning
Here we are, about three weeks into the New Year, but we are sharing about beginnings. Everything has to have a beginning. And beginnings usually have some kind of a plan and purpose behind them. FGG Designs began in the back crevices of the mind of one of our family members. As the original thoughts began to gel and were subsequently shared with other members of the family, one by one we all started to get enthusiastic and excited about the possibilities. None of us really knew how far this would grow, and we still don’t.
Regardless of how far it might develop as a business, the effect it has on us as a family has already been a great encouragement to us all. We believe that the greatest reason lies even within our name. We have not chosen to be engaged in this endeavor to get rich or to display our great talents. Our true, heartfelt desire is to keep challenging our focus on all of life. It is For God’s Glory, and we need to be reminding ourselves of this, each moment of our lives.
A Bit of History
With that in mind, we would like to draw your attention to interesting and challenging facts; found in the Old Testament book of Exodus. Looking way back in history, we are reminded that Moses (possibly the most revered man in Jewish history), had three important time periods in his life. The first 40 years were his development in the world; he lived a very important time as royalty (adopted grandson of the Pharaoh) in Egypt. The next 40 years were challenges to his finding his way in the wilderness, serving his father-in-law in Midian. Then, the most interesting and provocative 40 years started when he was 80. He really learned to walk in the Way (God’s Word), led the Children of Israel out of Egypt and toward the Promised Land.
Without going into a lot of detail about each of those periods, a closer examination helps us to realize that every one of us has potentially similar challenges – except that these are usually woven together throughout our lives. In other words, every one of us experiences the World and the Wilderness, and are confronted with the Way. All of this is aimed at helping us to know how to walk in the Way.
As I am celebrating 80 years behind me, it wakes me up to realize that perhaps the most exciting years of ministry might still be ahead. What a challenge. Is this a year of new beginnings – for you, as well as for us?
